I’M A GUY WHO WEARS UGG BOOTS. DEAL WITH IT.

Guys ugg bootsWell the weather has changed and it’s time to jump into those comfortable warm Ugg Boots. The only thing is, I’m a guy. Sometimes I get heckled when I wear them so I’ve got to ask myself, “Are Ugg Boots just for chicks?”
I don’t get hassled too much, it’s mostly just weird looks, but those comfortable boots are worth it. If you think Ugg Boots are just for the ladies, let me bring you in on a little fashion history.
Lore suggests the name came from World War I pilots Down Under who called them “fugs”, for flying ugly. In the beginning, Ugg Boots were hand stitched by Australian surfers to warm up their feet after a good surf session. The sheepskin fur was crudely cut, lumpy, poorly sown together, and had only fur skin for soles, hence the name Ugly Boots. My uncle, who did some surfing in Australia, was an early adapter and mailed some Uggs to my Santa Cruz parents back in the ‘80’s. By the late 90’s Uggs were popularized up and down the California coast by male surfers. The surfers’ girlfriends started wearing their boyfriends’ Uggs, and then all of a sudden, bang, the fashion trend exploded.
Ugg zGirls love to wear Ugg Boots all the time and who can blame them? They also love to make fun of each other for wearing Ugg Boots with miniskirts, which by the way, is hot. As a grom, my parents use to get my sister and I Ugg Boots for Christmas to keep us warm in the winter. These days, I don’t see very many men my age wearing them. Well guys, it’s time to reclaim our Ugg Boots. If you love what you wear, it doesn’t matter what other people think. Ugg Boots are dude boots, learn to love it.
