Please say hello to, or reacquaint yourself with, Sahara Ray. Sahara is the daughter of ex-professional surfer Tony Ray, born in Torquay but raised in Santa Cruz via dual citizenship. Her parents met while pops was competing in the Cold Water Classic in Santa Cruz, and as she says of Tony, “He is the most loving, kind human in the world, but he can still charge Mavericks and Jaws when it’s 30-plus feet.” Sahara herself still surfs – she used to compete, but now it’s all about fun.
